In writing and illustrating a children’s book, I felt inspired to bring color alive through characters to create an adventure story that teaches about color mixing, while making fun of egotism and prejudice. Art for kids starting with preschool art activities is a great way to bring to children lessons about getting along with one another and expand their natural curiosity and creativity.
As an artist/cartoonist, graphic designer and former art teacher, I felt inspired to bring color alive through characters to create an adventure story that taught about color mixing, while making fun of egotism and prejudice. The book gives children and adults access, in a light-handed manner, to the message that each color is different but equal. Initially, I was influenced by the children's book, The Dot & the Line by Norton Juster. I liked how the author used simple graphics to create a delightful, romantic story. In January 2012, I launched the book as an Amazon Kindle ebook and worked with CreateSpace.com to produce the printed version. Publishing The Best Colors is one of the highlights of my career. I am enjoying how people of all ages respond. From two year olds insisting that the book be read repeatedly, to business executives who find the book a team building tool. It gives me great pleasure to know that I can contribute, in my own way, to making the world a better place.
